![]() The challenge is actually where the game loses a couple of points. The gameplay is fun, there always seems to be something new to discover, the acting is actually really well done (considering the style of game, this is a huge surprise), and the challenge is mostly decent. I think it's the only game to come out this year that has been hyped up for me, but hasn't disappointed. That said, I love the hell out of this game. ![]() I waited for two reasons: 1) my laptop just barely ran it on low settings (and when it does run, my laptop heats up considerably) so I was waiting to get a new computer and 2) I wanted to get it on sale (which I did). I picked this game up recently after waiting a bit. Consistently unfunny, with fairly labored delivery.though it might've been meant that way, as Tex reacts the same way as we do. Honestly, if there was one negative, I'd have to say that it was Kevin Murphy as the Smart Aleck. The game is considerably easier than Pandora Directive, and I'd say it's on the same level as UAKM. The characters are charming and make you care for them, even those with short screen times. Needless to say, the acting, direction, and quality are great, as they have always been with the Tex games. The game feels like a love letter to Tex fans who've waited this long - from that epic opening movie to the ending with Spoiler. " And if you play your cards right, you get what they call a "golden ending". I remember loading it up and totally freaking out, saying stuff like "This is unreal. Shows you what FMV adventures are capable of if done right (but then again, every Tex game from UAKM onwards has been standouts in the genre anyway), and it's such a perfect throwback to the genre. It's pure gold for anyone who's a fan of Tex, and it's a great FMV adventure game in its own right. Other than Wolfenstein and Dreamfall, my best purchase of 2014. Overall I'd give the game a recommendation for all comers but just keep an open mind as it's reminiscent of older times so you'll want to save often. They have a lot of great actors that joined for this game and many returning characters that old fans will enjoy. Also, some important cutscenes didn't play for me so I was confused about the story at one point because people kept referencing the cutscene that I didn't know about. The game crashed on me a few times, normally didn't lose much progress but I did sometimes lose about 30 minutes of work. The bonus part is mostly and homage to previous games so don't worry about missing something important. Otherwise there's multiple endings based on your choices through the game (I think 5?) and a bonus addition to the game if you grab the collectables (Warning there's 1 part that you can only access at a certain part and can't come back to). There is one part and only one part I would recommend using a guide for just to get through because it's a stupid "find these super small pieces to put together in this big ass room." I spent about 3 hours trying to find the last 2 pieces for the puzzle before I looked up a guide and found I couldn't find them because of inconsistent game design in that 1 room. However, it's not so bad that it ruins the game (I didn't run into many parts where I died) nor does it cost you anything, you don't lose any progress for dying it just starts you back at where you were just before you died. There's also parts where you will just die and you'll have no fucking clue why or you didn't know you could die at that part (again, very old school). ![]() If you go into this having expectations you'll more than likely have a bad time. I loved the game and would recommend it for new people to try something different and to remember to KEEP YOUR MIND OPEN. There's not a lot of consistency in some areas (mainly just 1 zone that is the absolute worst part of the game). ![]() However, this game is very old school and follows in suit with the previous games. All the important things from the previous games are recapped at the start and there's a lot of interactables that give snippets from previous titles. I had seen people play previous games so I understood what style of game it but hadn't actually played any. My first foray into Tex Murphy was this game and I loved it.
